Simply For Strings - May 09

Welcome to another exciting newsletter from all of us here at Simply for Strings.
A lot goes on behind the scenes of a modern day violin shop which a lot of our customers probably never get to see. Just this month I have been liasing with one of our factories in China to better our entry-level of bass - the 'Arioso'. I have been diligently faxing measurements and other requirements, in order to keep our products the best in the market so that time and time again each instrument that walks out our door is a complete success. We are also working on an exciting range of baroque instruments and bows which we hope to bring you soon.
It has always been a philosophy of Simply for Strings to support local talent and we had two great opportunities to do so this month. As many of you may know, we have a strong relationship with the string community in northern central Queensland and were privileged to be able to send one of their bright young stars, Ellen, on a full-scholarship to the Macgregor Summer School. There, she will participate in Master-classes with David Deacon, previous violist with the Sydney Symphony.
We once again had the opportunity to support The Sixth Galaxy of Cellos. Our very own staff member, Shannon participated the occasion. The Galaxy of Cellos is a biennial event which brings together all past and present students of Conservatorium lecturers, Marcus and Mei-Lee Stocker to form a massive 110 piece cello orchestra.
Christmas is fast approching and now is a great time to lay-by or purchase a gift certificate. We have a great range of stocking fillers and gifts for very special teachers. We look forward to seeing you in the store soon.

Happy playing!
Toby.

Member Special and Monthly Tip

movember Simply for Strings takes on the Movember Challenge to raise awareness for men's helath

Both Shannon and I will be growing a moustache this year for Movember. We have decided to put down our razors for one month (November) and help raise awareness and funds for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.
What many people do not appreciate is that close to 3,000 men die of prostate cancer each year in Australia and one in eight men will experience depression in their lifetime, many of whom don’t seek help.
Facts like these have convinced us we should get involved and I am hoping that you will support us.

To sponsor the Simply for Strings Movember team you can either:
* Click this link http://au.movember.com/mospace/671/and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account
* Write a cheque payable to Movember Foundation, referencing our Registration Number 671 and mailing it to: Movember Foundation, PO Box 292, Prahran, VIC, 3181

* Buy a custom design music badge in-store for $2.50 with all profits going to Movember.

Remember, all donations over $2 are tax deductible.

Movember is now in its sixth year and, to date, has achieved some pretty amazing results by working alongside The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCFA) and beyondblue: the national depression initiative.
