Here at Simply for Strings, Larsen Fractional strings are the most commonly teacher-requested upgrade strings for intermediate and advancing students. They are very popular for their long-lasting good quality sound and responsiveness.
We love Larsen because they produce a good quality, well-rounded characteristic cello sound. They offer a strong, bright tone, with a good richness and sweetness, especially in the upper register. They have a good dynamic range and offer good express qualities.
For smaller cellos, we consider Larsen to be one of the very best choices to improve the sound of your instrument. They are very long-lasting and forgiving of rough treatment, making them great for students, but they can be much more than “student” strings depending on the cello. Children using a ¼, ¼ or ¾ size cello from intermediate through to upper-level examinations usually use these strings to give the best advantage. For those on a budget, Larsen strings can help even the most basic cellos perform at a higher level and assist the child by making it easier to produce a good quality sound.
"I have had the most exciting opportunity to be involved with Larsen Strings in developing and trialling fractional size cello strings. I have been amazed at what a difference high quality strings can make." - Katri Patel.
Larsen Original Medium strings are the ones you’re most likely to find as upgrades on our student and intermediate cellos. Most of our intermediate model cellos have Larsen Original as standard installation.
Larsen Factional Cello Strings are based on the popular, original, 4/4 design. The A and D strings’ core are made from high-grade steel and the G and C cores are made using specially-developed concentric multi-stranded steel.
The A and D strings are wound with stainless steel flat wire, and the G and C strings are wound with high-grade tungsten. All of the materials found in Larsen strings are high quality, industry standard string “ingredients”.
ABOUT THE CELLO STRING LIBRARY
Simply for Strings has created a trial ‘String Library’ for cellists to visit on appointment and try different string sets and/or combinations, so that we can help with their search for the sound and response they need. Here you can try before you buy, with our guidance and assistance. In this appointment, we’ll have a discussion with you before we start fitting up to three different sets on your cello. We let you trial the strings in-store to determine which strings may suit you and your needs best. And if you need, we can play your cello for you, so you can hear it as both listener and player. It’s an obligation free appointment, all you need to do is bring your cello, and prepare to fall in love with some new strings!
