I have been dealing with Simply for Strings since 2005 when they ran a mobile business that catered for all my string needs both personally and as the director of strings in a very busy school programme. In all this time all I can say is they have managed to achieve that wonderful alchemy of outstanding service, quality products with competitive prices. Their founders Anna Andriolo and Toby Cumpstay have over the years built up a team of like-minded professionals who interact with members of the string community throughout Australia whose main focus is customer care and satisfaction.

For example, just recently their Education Manager, Teegan and Luthier, Ben came to our school to assess all the cellos and basses. Their attention to detail was astounding. We have now commenced a very workable maintenance plan and I must say the results have been first class. It is of little surprise to me that they were named as Australian Small Retailer of the Year 2018.

The Care and Maintenance workshops were a resounding success for not only myself and my students, but their families too.

I was delighted to hear feedback from parents commenting on both their child’s increase in knowledge, and how fortunate they knew their children were to partake in such activities. The experience as a teacher was mutually rewarding, being able to step back and allow someone else to take the reins and learn a thing or too myself.

Since running the instrument Care and Maintenance workshops, my students don’t shy away from their instruments, and instead show intrigue and interest in what used to be the "scary" side of playing and maintaining a string instrument. I have also enjoyed using the left-over resources, such as the cleaning cloth and cream, on student instruments since the workshop.

Teegan presented an incredibly helpful video for the string staff at Canberra Grammar School in 2020. This workshop helped us to gain the skills and confidence to perform basic maintenance and servicing on our school instruments in our huge instrument stocktake. Teegan was clear, had personal experience from performing these services herself, and was thoughtful in what skills we would need to know.

The Zoom workshop was also a great format since we couldn’t travel to undertake the learning ourselves. Thanks to Simply for Strings, our instruments this year are cleaner, work better, and are in better condition for our students.
